The house was built on Grattan Road Beach. Some people referred to it as Moon Lodge or Sand House for obvious reasons. Different families and individuals lived in the house over the years. One man who lived there for a time was Jack Ward; he later moved to Shantalla and eventually lived in Corrib Park. It seems that there is a vegetable garden beside the house. The end came for the house as a dwelling on Saturday, 16 September 1961, when ‘Hurricane Debbie’ paid her unwelcome visit to the city. The house was destroyed by the hurricane floodwaters, and the family had to seek shelter with friends or neighbours. The building quickly became derelict. The Red Cross (Galway) subsequently used the building for training. However, the building became a victim of neglect, weather and the power of the sea, and eventually it disappeared.
